The program is subject to a two-year period of compliance and reporting. Building owners are required to occupy the space as a business owner or actively market the space for lease. Projects must be complete, with final invoices submitted and certificate of occupancy received, by December 1, 2023. The minimum reimbursement is $25,000 and the maximum is $75,000.Įligible projects comprehensively address code deficiencies and result in a certificate of occupancy. The White Box Grant reimburses 70% of the eligible interior renovation expenses required to meet current state and local building code, fire safety code, and accessibility requirements, as demonstrated by stamped architectural or engineering drawings. Despite the complexities of an ever-changing project with, project scope additions, and obstacles that come along with historical buildings, the OCP team ensured the project stayed on schedule. With over a half-million annual visitors and the public depending on the library’s opening on time, there was no choice but to hit the deadline. A lot of redesigning took place to accommodate walls to fit with existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The project was a rehab of both the original library and an addition, in which many of the drawings did not match the existing conditions. OCP and was a part of the renovation to the library years ago, and was invited back for their expertise. Originally beginning 51 years ago in Toledo, OCP Contractors has a long-standing reputation for working on the city’s most distinguished buildings. A new 26,000 SQ FT green roof improves stormwater management, conserves energy, mitigates the urban heat island, reduces noise and air pollution and provides space for urban agriculture (and includes a 1/4 mile walking path). Recycled materials were utilized in the carpet, drapes and acoustical panels. Throughout the library, all lighting was converted to LED. The library also focused on integrating more aspects to become more environmentally friendly. The children’s area was expanded and the gallery, as well as gift shop, were relocated. Additionally, a business incubator space was modeled after successful, modern-day coworking spaces, and was developed to provide resources for small local organizations. The spaces feature multiple movable tables, smart boards, and TV monitors. ![]() ![]() Meeting spaces were made to be multi-functional, and foster collaboration. The renovation created an open floor plan while implementing modern technological resources for guests that drive cultural, educational and economic development. The $12-million dollar library renovation was devoted to maintaining the integrity of the original historic building while heavily reconfiguring more than half of the library’s footprint. The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library Main Branch’s mission is to engage the surrounding community, inspire lifelong learning and to provide universal access to a broad range of information, ideas and entertainment. ![]()
